Don’t Let Them Stop You
We find Jesus in Jerusalem surrounded by people who have come to a conclusion of who He is. Jesus doesn’t leave them in their false assumptions but He begins to teach and their response is what we saw in John 7:14-24
No matter the threat, assumptions or judgement we see that Jesus did not change
- The Scripture
- The Truth
- The Commands of God
Read John 7:14-18
(1) Jesus' teaching was vastly different from what the temple goers had heard all their lives. What set Jesus' teaching apart?
- What are you most excited about when you come to Church? Are there other things that have become a distraction from hearing God's Word that causes you to be amazed?
Read John 7:19
(2) This is a crazy statement by Jesus, but is also the truth, and if the gospel has to be preached we also have to share the truth that there is NO one who is righteous. This can cause us to either not speak the gospel at all or to alter the gospel to cut out the "bad parts"
- What stops you from sharing the Gospel to others?
Read John 7:20-24 / Genesis 17:10-14
(3) There is a seeming contradiction between the command to circumcise and the command to keep the sabbath day holy. Jesus uses this as an illustration to show that God is NOT concerned about the PRACTICE as much as He cares about the PURPOSE behind the practice. We have spoken quite a bit on how we need to get past what is RIGHT to what is REAL.
- What are areas in your life you are trying real hard to keep the PRACTICE of Christianity but don’t know the PURPOSE behind why you do what you do?
Jesus didn’t let culture, whether religious culture or worldly culture, change His message, His courage or the Truth He came to proclaim.
- As you apply what God has revealed to you today, write down one thing you are going to change in your life that will help you grow closer in intimacy with Jesus.
